This upcoming Tuesday, March 30th from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM, WCM will be hosting our Year-End Finale! We’ve had a great year, and would love to have everyone out one last time. Join us in looking back on the year, getting a sneak peak at next year's Exec team, and playing party games + Kahoot!

During the educational, the WCM team will be covering key lessons and advice, touching on both careers and, more broadly, life. This will be followed by a panel consisting of WCM’s Senior Executives, who will be sharing some insights they gained throughout their university experiences.

WCM will be holding our last mentorship meeting of the year, a group social, this upcoming Thursday! It will be taking place at 7:00 pm on Kumospace. Kumospace is a virtual environment where you can hang out with the rest of the WCM team, your mentors, and other mentees! Come out for a fun time and some great prizes!

The WCM team will be covering the fundamentals of Private Equity, Growth Equity, and Fundraising and the required due diligence process. We will be taking a beginner-friendly approach to evaluating potential investments and will review multiple case studies and interactive activities.

On March 5th, Western Capital Markets is hosting our annual Mock Interview Workshop. This workshop offers an excellent opportunity to practice and receive feedback on your interview performance from upper-year HBA students. The workshop will take place from 2:30 - 4:00 PM EST and students will be assigned a 20-minute time slot within that time period.

During the educational, special guest Zain Huda will be diving into the innerworkings of the quantitative finance industry and identifying what makes quantitative hedge funds so successful. We will be taking a beginner-friendly approach to dissecting algorithm trading strategies and differentiating these funds from traditional value funds.

WCM is hosting our 2nd Women in Finance Conference, consisting of two keynote speakers, a senior Panel, an interactive case activity judged by industry professionals. WCM is hosting our first ever SPAC Contest, in which contestants will have an opportunity to get published on our Medium Blog. Participants will be pitching a private company that they believe would be the best option for a SPAC to purchase right now, and may optionally also highlight a SPAC they believe would be best suited to take the company public.

We’re giving away Uber Eats gift cards! This week, we’ll provide a conceptual understanding of the valuation framework and tools available to you as investors. The team will then go step-by-step through each of the major valuation methods, providing insight into how, and when, to use each approach.

Part of our Canada Industry Conference. This event will introduce the fundamental concepts of using Excel and PowerPoint in a way that can be transferred to the position of a financial analyst. The workshop will discuss multiple topics, including shortcuts and formulas for Excel, and explore the relationship between PowerPoint and Excel.

WCM’s newest and most exciting event, our annual Canada Conference, features leading firms, incredible speakers (including the CEO of JPMorgan Canada), interactive career panels (spanning the buy-side & sell-side across country), and an interactive Excel & PowerPoint workshop hosted by our very own Development team.

We’ll be covering the fundamentals of successful investing, and how the discipline has evolved over the years. We will be taking a beginner-friendly approach to evaluating potential investments, and provide a proven framework to uncovering undervalued businesses. The presentation will feature multiple case studies and interactive activities.

We’ll be illustrating the transformation of the traditional tech value chain since the Dot-com bubble, and how aggregators and platforms disrupted the industry and changed the tech business model for the decades after. Ultimately, we will tie these concepts together in the context of finance, highlighting how these shifts are reflected in the tech M&A landscape today.

Come out this Friday, January 15th for WCM's first social of the year! We will be visiting on a virtual platform called Gather Town, where we can video chat with one another and play some games. Gather Town will open at 6:30pm, but before that, at 6:00pm, we will be hopping on a Zoom link to explain the platform and play some trivia for prizes!

Our panelists and keynote speakers span from alumni working in investment banking, private equity, and asset management, providing you with a window into the world of finance from varying perspectives.

We’ll be providing an in-depth look at the history of the industry and the many different career paths that can be pursued. We will do a deep-dive into the different strategies employed in pursuit of outperformance, and go into case-studies regarding some of the most interesting investments of all time.

This event will include content related to increasing self-confidence, networking, preparing for interviews, and navigating difficult scenarios during the finance recruiting process. The guest speaker for the event will be Cisi Zhang, Vice-President of Corporate Banking at BMO Capital Markets.

This deep-dive into the financial careers landscape will shed light on the frameworks necessary to succeed in your recruiting journey. The event is open to all years, and will cover the core competencies and processes surrounding 1st, 2nd and 3rd year recruiting.

WCM will be hosting a speaker panel featuring Michelle Khalili, the Head of Global Equity Capital Markets at Scotiabank, and Bauvneet Sahsi, an Associate. They will be discussing some of the most important transactions they've been a part of as well as providing some exclusive insight into the markets.

WCM will be hosting a resume workshop Thursday November 12th at 7pm. The virtual event will consist of a 30-minute overview of resume best practices, followed by 15-minute one-on-one sessions in breakout rooms with executives for students to ask specific questions and gain valuable feedback.

We'll be going through the fundamentals of corporate strategy, breaking down the concept of competitive advantage and covering the different playbooks which encompass competitive behaviour. We'll wrap up with a case study on Amazon and how they achieved global success.

The Development Team welcomes all mentorship program participants for the 2020/2021 year! During this brief introductory Zoom call, all mentees will have a chance to meet their HBA2 mentors, introduce themselves, learn more about the program, and get ready for a great year.

We'll be going through what investment banking is, what the work looks like at the junior level, strategies that drive mergers and acquisitions and walk through multiple case studies of the M&A process. We'll also provide an overview of the tools used to evaluate the world's largest transactions.

We’ll be reviewing the timeline of one of the most eventful summers in recent history. We’ll be diving deeper into the build up of the COVID-19 pandemic, the collapse of the market, the Fed’s response, the following crash of oil prices, the emergence of SPAC’s, and some interesting developments in the M&A landscape!
